Outstandingreading will talk about young adult books. It will include forthcoming books, book reviews of fantastic young adult literature, and chatter about what to read.
The following are books that I have read this summer. Each of them is a winner and will be highly recommended to students.
Borderline - Allan Stratton
Fifteen-year-old Sami and his family are Muslims. His father and mother have worked hard to be respected in their community, but Sami is still bullied at school and is called a sand monkey by classmates. When Sami's father cancels a father-son weekend trip, Sami thinks his father might be cheating on his mother. One night, however, the FBS bursts into Sami's home, arrests Sami's father, and interrogates Sami and his mother. After Sami's father is arrested in a terrorism plot, Sami decides to help his father out by sneaking across the Canadian border and seeking out a suspected terrorist.
The Light - Morpheus Road I - D.J. Machale
When Marsh's dad is out of town on a business trip, Marsh is terrorized by other-worldly forces, including Gravedigger, a comic book character that Marsh drew. Marsh is convinces that only his missing friend, Cooper, can help him with this strange situation. Marsh and Cooper's sister look for Cooper, but the bodies begin to pile up around them. Real terror is just beginning.
